Kansas City, Kansas City (WDAF) —Kansas City’s family, friends, and neighbors mourn the murder of a seven-year-old girl.
On Thursday night, they gathered in the apartment where she was murdered. Her mother and her 3-year-old brother remain in the hospital. Police say the suspect who killed her killed her.
Police say this started Wednesday morning when the suspect shot the girl’s mother at Welborn Park in Kansas City.
Investigators said he went to the apartment where her two children were inside. According to police, the man shot dead a 7-year-old girl and injured a 3-year-old boy. The family identified the girl as Cariya Reed.
Her father, Cretas Reed, said she loves playing outside with friends, unicorns and tutu and spending time with him. It’s unbearable to notice that she’s gone.
For seven years at Cariya Reed, she was a joy to the people around her.
“It’s unique when they come. She was a unicorn,” Reed said.
Her life was full of purpose and joy, but it ended in no sense. On Wednesday, she, her mother, and her three-year-old brother were all shot. Her mother is expected to survive, but the family said the boy was in crisis.
“She was killed on my birthday,” Reed said.
Her father received a call saying she was gone and he boarded a plane from Texas to KCK. He stood incredibly in front of Kariya’s all-nighter.
“I just want to keep raising my spirit and make her happy no matter what I do or how angry I am. That doesn’t solve anything,” Reed said.
“She just had a free spirit. She loved running around, playing and tickling. She loved noodles. She was able to eat noodles one after another.” Her stepmother, Radonna Reed, said.
Rahneshia Ragsdale is a family neighbor, setting Cariya’s all-nighter and hoping her family will recover. She said Kariya was a cheerful and cheerful kid who spent time with her and played with her children.
She says she is praying for Kariya’s mother and little boy.
“I just want her to know that my daughter is loved. If I need something, I know where I am. We are here for her. We are you I’m praying for, crying for you and your baby. We love Kariya, “Ragsdale said.
Her father said their bond was unique and she knew she would meet her again someday.
“I will tell her I love her, and I will see her in heaven,” Reed said. “My little girl. My little baby. Always.”
The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office said it would announce the suspect’s name on Friday.
Cariya’s family founded Gofundme to sort out her unexpected commemorative expenses. If you can help this family at her funeral, you can donate here.
