Dr. Anthony Fauci, the face of the American pandemic reaction by the two White House administrations, was tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 81-year-old Fauci, who was fully vaccinated and received two booster shots, was experiencing mild COVID-19 symptoms, according to a statement from the National Institutes of Health.

Fauci has not been in close contact with President Joe Biden and other senior government officials lately. He tested positive on a rapid antigen test. According to the statement, he follows public health guidelines and doctor’s advice, and if the test is negative, he will work at NIH.

Fauci is Biden’s Chief Medical Advisor and Director of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases. He was a key member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force under former President Donald Trump.

Earlier this week, US Secretary of Health and Welfare Xavier Becerra tested positive for the virus. It was the second time Becerra was symptomatic and tested positive.
