FDA allows ‘mix and match’ approach to COVID-19 boosters – Nashville-Davidson, Tennessee

Nashville, TN — The FDA said Americans would be allowed to “mix” the vaccine and get booster shots from a different drug company than the one that first administered it.

The CDC must sign off before the provider can start managing these mix-and-match shots. The conversation is set to take place on Thursday.

This latest update occurred when the FDA approved booster shots of the Covid-19 vaccine for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

A long-awaited National Institutes of Health study published last week showed that all combinations of boosters increased antibody levels, but Pfizer and Moderna boosters seemed to be the most effective. ..

“The ability to mix them opens the door to so many people,” said infectious disease expert Dr. Michel Baron. “We strongly recommend that unvaccinated people be vaccinated. Unfortunately, the virus does not go away immediately.”

To date, approximately 11.2 million people have been boosted, according to the CDC.
