FDA restricts J&J’s COVID-19 vaccine due to blood clot risk | Coronavirus – Tucson, Arizona

Tucson, Arizona 2022-05-05 17:31:00 –

Washington (AP) — US regulatory agencies severely limit who can be vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. This is because the risk of blood clots is rare but serious. The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday that injections should only be given to adults who cannot be vaccinated with another vaccine, or specifically those who cannot request a J & J vaccine. This decision is the latest limitation to hit the company’s vaccine, which has long been overshadowed by more effective shots from Pfizer and Moderna. In December, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended prioritizing Moderna and Pfizer shots over J & J due to safety concerns.
