A federal judge in Louisiana has granted a provisional injunction to suspend the implementation of the Biden administration’s suspension of drilling permits in federal land.
Earlier this year, the president signed an executive order to suspend new leases for oil and gas drilling in federal land and water.
Last week, Judge Terry Dauty of the US District Court heard discussions from 13 states, including Louisiana, the Justice Department, and environmental groups that support it, suing Moratorium.
On Tuesday, Doughty announced his stay. In it, the judge orders that the suspension cannot be carried out until the proceedings are resolved or the Court of Appeals lifts them.

A Louisiana lawyer claimed that the president ordered a cemetery in the Gulf of Mexico.
During the hearing, a lawyer at the Justice Department denied the claim, saying that leasing sales continued in the Gulf and on land.
Only seven sales were suspended in the first quarter after the executive order due to different decisions. The DOJ states that the suspension was not to suspend a new lease, but to conduct an environmental impact review.
Louisiana’s Attorney General Jeff Landry claims that the executive order is causing financial losses in Louisiana, but the Justice Department disagrees.
Landry has issued the following statement regarding the provisional injunction.
This is a victory not only for the rule of law, but also for thousands of workers who produce affordable energy for Americans. The federal court is grateful that President Biden has admitted that he is completely out of his authority to close oil and gas leases on federal land.
Senator Bill Cassidy also issued a statement.
“This is great news for Louisiana workers whose livelihoods are threatened by the administration’s careless energy policy,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The president has done tens of thousands of jobs to fulfill the promises of the campaign. You shouldn’t be able to take it. You need all of the above long-term strategies, winners and losers. The Ministry of Interior needs to start another offshore sale right away.
