Corpus Christi, Texas — Wednesday was World Sea Turtle Day, and the Texas State Aquarium commemorated it in a special way.
On Wednesday, the last sea turtle that came after the February Big Freeze was returned to the sea.
According to the aquarium, turtle health was very important when arriving at the aquarium’s wildlife rescue center.
Turtle head injuries that resembled frostbite on human skin exacerbated its debilitating condition.
After almost three months of care, the injury was slowly but surely healed, thanks to the care of the aquarium veterinarian and rescue staff.
The Wildlife Rescue Center has also released two other sea turtles that have been with them since mid-January.
One was found stuck on the National Coast of Padre Island and the other was found near the Naval Air Base-Corpus Christi.
In just 2021, the Texas State Aquarium Wildlife Rescue Center returned 992 sea turtles to the wild.
