AUGUSTA, Kan. (KSNW)-A fire broke out in the hearth of Augusta High School, and two alerts were issued on Tuesday.The fire broke out before 5 am

Patrol officers saw smoke coming out of the building. When the Augusta Fire Department arrived, I found a large amount of smoke in the school gym. The crew was able to find and extinguish the fire in the furnace chamber.

According to the fire chief, the smoke was contained in the gymnasium and the stench spread throughout the building.

At the time of the fire, there was no one in the building. The cause of the fire and the amount of damage are still being investigated.
