Netanyahu said, “I hear the opposition’s constant cries about the end of the country and democracy. ‘Members of the opposition, losing elections is not the end of democracy, this is the essence of democracy.’

For the United States, there are major political and cultural considerations. Netanyahu’s Likud party has already committed to expanding Jewish settlements in disputed areas, including the West Bank. The White House has voiced opposition to expanding settlements to the West Bank because it is seen as the territorial core of a future Palestinian state.

The far-right coalition has also promised to provide subsidies to Netanyahu’s ultra-Orthodox allies and push for sweeping reforms of the judicial system. The term of office for the new government is expected to be his four years.

The White House’s National Security Council said Thursday it “will not support policies that jeopardize the viability of a two-state solution or that conflict with our mutual interests and values.”

“We will promote Israel’s security and regional integration, support a two-state solution, and support policies that equally ensure the security, prosperity and freedom of Israel and Palestine,” he said.

From a religious standpoint, most American Jews are unorthodox, so the new Israeli government could undermine its support within the United States, so as the new Israeli government leans further to the right, Tensions between the two countries are likely to rise.
