Tulsa, Oklahoma — The first family of about 1,800 Afghan refugees arrived in Oklahoma last night and landed in Oklahoma City.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations says a delegation of pagans welcomed refugees and gave them a “welcome kit.”

The kit included a copy of the Quran, Islamic prayer rugs, PPE gear, and sanitary supplies.

They also received donations from the community and clothing made from halal food from a local Islamic restaurant.

“We are honored to work with our partners to serve these new neighbors when they settle down,” said Veronica Raysle, Director of Civil Rights, CAIR-OK.

“CAIR Oklahoma is in a unique position to help ensure that their transition is smooth, compassionate and welcome. We participate in this historic effort and bring Afghan friends to Oklahoma. I am happy to welcome you to the family. “

It is estimated that about 1,000 refugees from Afghanistan will move to Oklahoma City and about 800 will move to Tulsa to flee the Taliban-controlled nations.
