The head of the US effort to produce a coronavirus vaccine said the first vaccination could take place on December 12.
The Food and Drug Administration Advisory Board will meet on December 10 to discuss a request for an emergency license for the COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Pfizer.
Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech recently announced in a large, ongoing study that the vaccine is 95% effective in preventing mild to severe COVID-19 disease.
Dr. Monsef Slawi, responsible for the Warp Speed operation of the coronavirus vaccine program, said he plans to ship the vaccine to the state within the expected 24 hours of FDA approval.
Slawi told CNN that vaccination is expected to begin on December 12, the second day after approval.
