Florence, South Carolina (WBTW) — Florence Life Scout Keren Kennedy is committed to becoming an Eagle Scout by helping children with sensory problems.

“During the first three months of quarantine, I was just experimenting with things,” Kennedy said. “It was virtual at the time, so I’m trying to find something that helps me focus more.”

Kennedy was diagnosed with autism at 3K. He says sensory disorders like ASD and ADHD can make it difficult to stay focused and focus on school.

“Most kids tap things like desks,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy said that when he was studying, he usually bounced his legs. He finally found a product that helped him focus: Kinnebar Footswing.

“Use your feet to swing back and forth,” Kennedy said.

The swing can be mounted on the floor or desk, allowing you to gently move your foot around a metal swing or rubber band while working.

Kennedy has been a Scout for 10 years and is approaching the rank of Eagle Scout. To get it, he had to complete a service project.

“It’s about showing that you’re willing to do something, and that you’re willing to help the community,” Kennedy said.

After deciding that the swing of the foot is perfect for his project. Kennedy collected money from his family and members of his church and bought and built 20 of them to donate to local schools, including those he attended. Kennibar offered a discount when informing the owner of the purpose of the purchase.

“The reaction I got from these teachers and principals was like,’Wow, we didn’t know anything about this,'” said Kennedy’s father and Scoutmaster’s assistant. One Peter Kennedy said.

“They were excited about these,” said Keren Kennedy. “They were excited to see their interests in how they behave.”

Keren wants to reach the rank of Eagle Scout by the end of the year.
