Florida Education Custody Law Enforces – Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky

The White House said the Ministry of Education will monitor the impact of parental rights legislation on Florida’s new education, which came into force on Friday.

Activists called the bill a “don’t call it gay” bill as it passed the legislature.

“This is not a matter of’parental rights’,” said White House spokesman Karine Jean-Pierre. “This is discrimination, obvious and simple.”

The law prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity from kindergarten to third grade. These topics also cannot be discussed in a way that is “not age-appropriate” for older students.

Parents can sue school districts and educators who feel they are in violation of the law. Critics are worried that the broader terms of the bill could put teachers at legal risk.

According to the Scripps Bureau’s WPTV, a spokesperson for the Governor’s Office said, “The law does not prohibit students from discussing in the classroom,” and “it does not prohibit teachers from answering students’ questions.” ..
