Tampa, Florida — Florida has been set to fail to meet the Biden administration’s goal of giving 70% of people over the age of 18 at least one dose of COVID-19 by July 4. Tracks to reach that benchmark by the end of July, according to major epidemiologists.
USF Health epidemiologist Dr. Jason Salemi made predictions using state adult vaccination rates over the past two weeks.
If the current rate is maintained, 65.5% of adults in Florida will be vaccinated by the holidays, according to Salemi. He said the state is likely to reach its 70% target by the end of July.
This is because new Delta variants continue to spread across the United States, encouraging health officials to shoot people.
“We’ve seen everywhere that these variants are very opportunistic and happy to find sensitive people in our community,” Salemi said. “Once again, the best way to protect yourself from these concerns-causing variants is to vaccinate the majority of people in the community.”
On Thursday, June 24, First Lady Jill Biden travels to Kissimmee and Tampa, where she visits vaccination sites and recommends vaccination to everyone in the area.
In Kissimmee, the First Lady visits a drive-through vaccination site managed by Oceana Community Health Services.
Later that day in Tampa, the First Lady will attend Tampa Bay Lightning for the Advent Health Shots On Ice vaccination event at Amalie Arena.
As part of the Together Tampa Bay initiative, Advent Health hosts vaccination events at the Amalie Arena. Floridian has been invited to register to be vaccinated, take pictures online from the ice, take pictures with ThunderBug and Zamboni, and receive Lightning stolen goods.
In addition, Floridian has the opportunity to participate in great prize sweepstakes, including tickets to Lightning games.

AdventHealth offers two free doses of Pfizer and a single dose of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
