As a first responder, it was difficult last year. Every day, we witness the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on children and families: unemployment, homelessness, developmental delay, and an increase in crime.

As a police officer, I often feel helpless because of the lack of resources for families to deal with these pandemic difficulties. We respond to constant calls that are the direct result of this. It’s disappointing when thinking about all the families who have already tackled such a disability. The pandemic has significantly exacerbated the struggle faced by these families, especially those supporting children with chronic illnesses.

The Miles for Miracles team at Boston Children’s Hospital has always contributed to the work of helping children and their families in the hospital, but I felt it was more necessary than ever to join this team. After the last three races, their work at BCH turned out to be irreplaceable during this difficult time.

I will continue to run with this team “until all kids are well” across Boston’s 125th finish line.
