Mesa, Arizona (3TV / CBS 5)- A teacher in Mesa, Arizona is currently in a Mexican prison after accidentally trying to bring a gun across the border.

On March 11, Red Mountain High School science teacher Kailia Rosales was detained in Mexico after saying that her family had forgotten to have a 9mm gun in her backpack. “She made a mistake. It was an accident,” says Rosales’ sister Audraward.

Ward says X-rays picked up a gun in Rosales’backpack when Rosales crossed the Mexican border. Rosales, 29, was detained in the car with two friends. Two men with her were released on Thursday, but Rosales is still behind the bar.

“She isn’t feeling safe.” Rosales is in a cell with eight other girls. “There are bunk beds. Two girls sleep on top, two girls sleep on the bottom, and she sleeps under the bunk bed on the floor,” says Krystal Taylor Rosales’ mother.

Taylor says Rosales doesn’t speak Spanish and the other women in her cell don’t speak English. Since the arrival of Rosales, there have been several battles in the cell. Fortunately, however, her mother says Rosales wasn’t involved. “The longer she stays there, the more likely it is that this will happen,” she says.

When Taylor searched the internet, he found that his daughter could be facing imprisonment of three to ten years. The family has a lawyer who says she could be released in a few months. “The way we understand that negotiations go on is that if they can get it to a particular sentence, she can go out and she may have to stay there. , She can go out, “says Taylor.

There is a Rosales GoFundMe page. So far, it has raised over $ 11,000, but $ 7,500 has already been used to free her two friends, and the family also expects to incur more statutory costs. If you would like to donate Here..
