Lawrence, Kansas — Lawrence City Manager Craig Owens announced on Friday that he has hired Rich Rockhart as the new chief of the Lawrence Police Department.
Lockhart previously retired in 2016 after a 26-year career at the Kansas City Police Department in Missouri. He then served as police chief of the Warrensburg Police Department in Missouri before assuming a position in Lawrence.
“We are very pleased to welcome Rich to Lawrence,” Owens said. “Lich brings a wealth of experience from his previous position. We are pleased to help him join our team and make Lawrence a safe and secure community for all.”
Lawrence conducted a national recruiting activity led by Ralph Andersen Associates, a national executive recruiting company.
“I look forward to working with the Lawrence community and members of the Lawrence Police Department,” Rockhart said. “I would like to thank Mr. Owens and the members of the search committee for giving me this wonderful opportunity.”
Lockhart will open his position on January 16, 2022.
