Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) — 30-year-old state representative Robert “Bob” Tata has died from Virginia Beach’s 85th District and Tidewater Virginia Coach of Decade.
Officials say he died on June 11th, surrounded by his family.
Tata became an assistant coach for the UVA Cavalier football team after coaching Granby Comets in the state finals in 1965. A few years later, he became the head coach of Noview High School.
He was also a PE teacher, history teacher, baseball coach, and coaching counselor. Coach Tata was named Tidewater’s 10-year coach from 1970 to 1980 for his winning record.
Tata was affectionately called a “coach” throughout his political career.
In 1983, Bob ran for District 85 of the Virginia General Assembly. On the Tata Team, he has successfully served the Old Minion for 30 years, including the chairman of the school board and members of the Expenditure Budget Committee.
