“We will miss his wise and calm attitude and passion for public services,” a Senate Republican caucuses said in a statement on Friday. “Our thoughts and prayers are directed to Senator White’s family and friends.”

Rio Rancho Republican Senate minority Whip Craig Brandt told the Albuquerque Journal that one of White’s relatives found him at home. The cause of death was unknown.

White is a veteran of the US Air Force and served in Vietnam. He retired from his job as an airport executive and has been with the State Capitol since 2009-14.

“He was a man who served his country, his state, and his members well,” Brandt said.

White was awarded by the New Mexico Open Government Foundation in 2018 for his support in increasing the transparency of the adult guardianship program.
