At the Tucson, Arizona-McKale Center, laughter and tears were mixed, remembering former Wildcat head coach Lute Olson, whose former player and loved one died a little over a year ago.
“He was always a gentleman,” said his widow, Kelly Olson. “It’s very kind, affectionate, and compassionate to everyone he meets.”
The public compliment has been postponed due to the ongoing pandemic.
Cedric Dempsey, the athletic director of U Arizona, who hired him from Iowa in 1983, said: right. “
The speakers shared their memories one by one and thought about the impact Olson had on them and the Tucson community.
“There were no stages or games that were too big for Coach O,” said Jason Terry, a former Pac-10 Player of the Year. “And that’s our own way.”
“My best friend and Hall of Fame coach will give you a glass when we get home in the life we lived in,” said friend Paul Waitman. “I miss you, but I will never forget it.”
