Shanksville, PA-Former President George W. Bush told people at Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania that Americans learned a lot about themselves on September 11.

“I knew that courage was more common than I had imagined and was manifesting itself in sudden splendor in the face of death,” Bush said at a ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the attack on Saturday.

Bush, who was president during the attack, praised the courage of the passengers and crew on Flight 93, who allegedly crashed a plane in the countryside of Pennsylvania to thwart the attack on the US Capitol.

“The 33 passengers and 7 crew members on Flight 93 could have been a group of citizens chosen by fate. In a sense, they replaced us all,” Bush said. I did. “Terrorists soon discovered that a random group of Americans was a group of exceptional people.”

He advised Americans to set aside their political differences in the spirit of what he saw after 9/11.

“Most of our politics is a naked complaint of anger, fear and resentment,” Bush said. “On the day of American trials and sorrows, I saw millions of people instinctively grabbed their neighbors’ hands and rallyed to each other’s cause.”

Vice President Kamala Harris began her remarks at the Memorial on Flight 93 in words to those who lost their loved ones on September 11.

“Too many people in our country, too many in our country, are deeply aware of the passage of time over the last two decades,” she said. “Know your country sees you and we stand with you and support you.”
