Four students at Peachtree Ridge High School facing charges after threatening social media posts | News – Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia 2021-10-18 12:47:00 –

Gwinnett County, Georgia (CBS46) —A letter sent to Peachtree’s family said Swanny’s threat to Peachtree Ridge High School took place on social media Monday morning, with four students disciplinary and criminal charges. It is reported that they are facing both.

The first letter said he had received several phone calls from his parents about photographs containing weapons believed to have been taken at school.

According to the letter, the flooring in the photo did not directly match any of the flooring in their building.

The second letter states that the school was aware of the second post and was able to identify about four students involved in the second threat post. The letter states that the students found the images online and tagged the school with the intention of “causing confusion.”

The letter also stated that student behavior was taken seriously and that they would be charged with both disciplinary and criminal charges for their behavior.

The school doesn’t look seriously confused by the post.

First letter

Dear Peach Tree Ridge High School Family:

I’m writing this morning to share with you that we are aware that a potential threat to our school has taken place on social media. I have received several phone calls from parents, but I am actively investigating with the police. The post shows that the photo, including the weapon, was taken at our school, but the floor in the photo does not directly match any floor in our building. However, we take this seriously, continue our research, and discuss it with our students.

I understand how anxious this kind of situation can be for students and their families. At this time, we have not found anything to prove the threat. School managers visit all classrooms and have additional school resource officers on campus as a precautionary measure and to support the school during the investigation.

I wanted to contact you to let you know about this situation, as you and your students may hear about it through social media and rumor factories. I felt it was wise to take an active part in our response and communication with you in this regard. As you know, at Peach Tree Ridge, providing a safe school community for our students is a priority. I know this is a priority shared by all of us. Thanks to parents and students for contacting us on this matter. As always, thank you for the continued support of our school and our students!

Second letter

Dear Peach Tree Ridge High School Family,

We would like to inform you about the event at our school this morning. As I mentioned earlier, we have been investigating possible threats to schools on social media. Since my previous communication, another post similar to the first one has been made in terms of weapons and references to our school. We had a fair amount of resources focused on the first post, so we were able to quickly find out about the second post. The survey was able to identify about four students involved in posting this second threat. We found the images online and confirmed that they tagged our school with the intention of “creating confusion.”

I know this was a very disturbing morning for our Peach Tree Ridge community. It is worrisome that the students in our school act in a way that confuses the school and confuses the students and their families. Please be aware that we take the actions of these students very seriously and that they face both disciplinary action and criminal liability for their actions. We will continue to investigate the relationship between this and the first reported threat. We continue school days and continue to add police presence to the school as a precautionary measure and to reassure students and staff. I will keep updating you all day long.

From the bottom of my heart

Jadd Jarusinski, Principal
