“We wanted to bring something gourmet to the community,” Douglas said. “I can’t go anywhere, I just get crabs and steaks as toppings.”

“For students, we show them the ropes,” Douglas said. “This is life. You get a job, you have an invoice to pay, and this is the way you do it. We put them into the workforce.”

After riding the wave of success selling food from the home kitchen, former Mr. Fries Man was founded in Gardena in February 2017 by Craig Batiste and his wife Dorothy. According to Douglas, Devin Green, who worked on the concept early with Batiste and evolved from nachos to french fries, opened a USC shop before his family launched a long beach space. He added that the family is now moving forward by opening up a place in Arizona.
