Fresno, California 2021-07-30 16:14:33 –
Health officials in Fresno County say the number of cases in people aged 10 to 30 is the highest.
Dr. Haley Nelson, a complex care pediatrician at Valley Children’s Hospital, said:
Dr. Nelson said he had already seen the children’s illness visits happening now.
Due to the increasing number of cases, this week the Fresno County Health Department shared concerns with the Fresno County School Director.
According to data released by the Ministry of Health, cases between the ages of 10 and 19 doubled between July 14, 2021 and July 19, 2021.
The data also show that since the beginning of June, people under the age of 18 have visited the hospital with COVID symptoms compared to those over the age of 65.
Dr. Nelson said that children who test positive for COVID-19 have symptoms ranging from mild to severe, but parents also need to consider the aftermath of the disease.
“Some children have multisystem inflammatory syndrome, so even if they have a mild case at the beginning, they can go to our hospital and our ICU weeks after the first infection. “Dr. Nelson said.
Due to the more contagious delta variants in the Central Valley, Dr. Nelson said everyone, including children, should strive to protect themselves and those who cannot be vaccinated.
She also said that parents should monitor their children for potential symptoms.
“If you have evidence that your child is feeling sick, leave it at home and call your pediatrician to consider getting a test,” said Dr. Nelson.
She said it was everyone’s responsibility to wash her hands, wear a mask, physically distance herself, and get vaccinated.
“Currently we are seeing an increasing number of them, and it will continue to increase unless we all play our part in being able to limit its spread,” Dr. Nelson said. Said.
The Fresno County Health Department will hold a press conference on Friday about the increase in youth COVID cases.
Dr. Nelson has said that for now it is important for parents to treat the symptoms they see in their children as COVIDs, until otherwise confirmed.
