Services include hormone replacement therapy and counseling for transgender students.
Malia Sherman is a director of counseling and psychological services at the university.
“We are always trying to assess the needs of our students and provide services that can meet those needs, so we always want our students to feel comfortable, welcomed and supported here. I’m out, “says Maria.
This program was requested by students, faculty and staff, and members of the community.
Currently, students seeking hormone injections need to find off-campus care.
“So we know that those students had to wait a considerable amount of time,” says Maria.
Dr. Robert Mitchell, director of medical services at Fresno State University, has comprehensively called for the new program, stating that student health center employees will be trained prior to launch.
“Training involves various aspects of gender-identifying care, from policy to communication to understanding new therapies,” says Dr. Mitchell.
The Gender Positive Care Program is covered by an annual student membership fee.
