Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) — Friends University recently cut the ribbon for a multi-million dollar new training facility.

The ribbon cut at the Garvey PE Center took place on Friday and the building received $ 2.3 million worth of renovations. The building now features expanded training and weight rooms, a new lobby, team meeting rooms and office space.

“The reality we faced when discussing this project is that our athletic department has doubled in size over the last two decades,” said Dr. Rob Ramseyer, director of athletics at Friends. “We needed to provide a space for children to meet, a place to exercise, an athletic trainer to keep them healthy, and a place for children to have a community.”

The project started in April and was expected to take eight months to complete. The refurbishment was completed in just half the time. This is the first major renovation since the building was built in the 80’s.
