Colorado Springs — Ending the homeless is complicated, but John Moore plays his role in helping solve it.
Eight years ago, Moore lived on the streets of Colorado Springs.
Today he works to help people wearing his old shoes who are experiencing the homeless.
Moore is a street outreach worker at Homeward Pikes Peak, a local organization that serves one of the most vulnerable homeless people in our community.
Twice a week, Moore goes out to talk to his neighbors who aren’t at home.
“The days that come out are different every day, but the days when there are people in need of help are the same.”
Moore first addresses the urgent needs of people, such as food and water.
Then he is working with them to find a stable home.
Moore says it is his goal to help these people, whatever it is.
“It’s usually the process of building trust. People don’t know me. I’m just a man on the road.”
