From the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses to the City Hall? West Lakeland Township staff consider buying – Twin Cities

Westlakeland Township officials are considering purchasing the former Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall building and turning it into a city hall.

The 2,300-square-foot building is located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Stagecoach Trail and 10th Street North. It’s for sale for $ 360,000. You can find it in Petersen Properties.

Townboard is currently meeting at Auckland Middle School on Lake Elmo and renting office space on the Joshua Taylor Building on Lake Elmo.

Township supervisor Gary Honing said it makes sense to buy a building. He said Westlakeland officials could find it difficult to secure a school for monthly townboard meetings. He is also concerned that the remodeling of Joshua Taylor’s building could increase the rental price of office space (currently $ 700 per month).

He said the Kingdom Hall is in a good location and has easy access to the inside and outside of the building.

Township officials and residents could “go back and forth as they please” and wouldn’t have to schedule a meeting with the school district, Honing said. In addition, the building can be used for community meetings. “It’s there and it belongs to the inhabitants. It’s better to use it for community activities,” Honing said. “I’m fine with that. In fact, I’m all about it.”

Mr Honing said he hopes the town board will vote for the purchase at a meeting in December.
