Seattle >> Hawaii has made four post-season trips to Washington for the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament since 2010.
Rainbow Wahine returned to Honolulu four times after the end-of-season defeat.
They hope that the fifth time will finally break the trend.
Wahine had the first opportunity to move forward from Seattle’s subregional by making Mississippi last longer in five sets of battles on Friday. Next up is the Pac-12 Champion, who will host Washington, who is 15th overall seed in the tournament bracket.
The winner of today’s 5 pm match will move to a Texas-sponsored area to face the second-seeded Longhorns, who advanced with a second win over Rice on Friday.
After Hawaii (22-7) finished its Mississippi victory, Washington (25-4) swept Brown, set up a fifth post-season meeting between programs, and Alaska Airlines at the Hekuedmundson Pavilion. We have set up a fourth meeting in the arena.
Washington dominated UH in 2012, won five in 2012, advanced with four sets in 2014, and all participated in the second round of the tournament.
The latest conference went on the UH path when Wahine defeated UW in four sets in the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic final on September 1, 2019.
After a volatile start on Friday, UH sharpened the serve-and-pass game and passed Mississippi. Getting Washington out of the system will be the key to upset the Husky lineup with its height advantage.
The match starts at 5 pm
