Los Angeles (AP) — TV actor Gavin MacLeod has died. He was 90 years old. His stepdaughter says MacLeod died early Saturday morning at his home in Palm Desert, California.
She blamed his death on his age and he was fine until very recently.
MacLeod won the stardom as a cynical TV news writer and Murray Slaughter in the 1970s comedy Mary Tyler Moore Show.
In “Love Boat”, he played the leading role as a cheerful stubbing captain. Early in his career, he was featured in “McHale’s Navy” from 1962 to 1964 as sailor Joseph “Happy” Haynes.
MacLeod’s movie credits include “Kelly’s Heroes” and “Gunboat San Pablos”.
