Bartow County, Georgia (CBS46)-GBI is investigating a shooting involving police officers in Taylorsville, Georgia on Friday night.

Preliminary information reveals that Aragon police officers tried to pull Shannon Thompson, 27, in Aragon to stop traffic.

Investigators say a vehicle chase took place between a police officer from Pork to Bartow County and Thompson. Officers called GSP for backup.

According to GBI, the GSP trooper performed a PIT operation on Thompson’s car and put him out of the roadway into the field.

A GBI spokesman says Thompson then drove out of the field towards the trooper who was standing on the road. According to investigators, the trooper fired several bullets at the car and hit the driver in his arm.

Thompson managed to escape. Law enforcement agencies continued to track down Pork County, officials say.

CBS46 News learned that when Thompson collided with Trooper’s car, Trooper tried to perform a second PIT operation. This caused Thompson to lose control of the vehicle and collide with the ditch.

Investigators shared, Thompson got out of the car and came across a nearby forest area. Trooper was arrested as a result of catching and tasting Thompson.

Thompson was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The case is under investigation and will continue to update the story as new details become available.
