It won’t be open to the public until the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK begins in July, but Genesis has a photo of the G70 shooter brakes as if it were just a few days on the market. I’m dropping.
Of course, it’s not our market. Manufacturers wisely decided to leave the wagon in Europe, offending thousands of North American drivers begging for such a car, never intending to buy it. But it certainly looks good, and Genesis was able to stretch the bold design of the G70 sedan while adding a fair amount of cargo capacity.
Genesis claims that it has 40% more storage than the sedan, but it’s unclear exactly how it will break down. The standard G70 offers 10.5 cubic feet of trunk space, and the shooting brakes offer a 40/20/40 foldable deal. It is supposed to maximize versatility by adding a pass-through option to the center jump sheet.
The engine options should be the same as those on the sedan. In other words, a 2.0-liter turbo or a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 is combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Since it is Europe, 2.2 liter diesel may also appear. Even though many think the base model is enough, the V6 is a real star, and it’s embarrassing for the whole purpose by offering almost everything a high-end brand does for less money. Suitable for vehicles that seem to be. Our only real concern is whether the wagon can maintain the desired dynamics (and feedback) of the G70 sedan.
Everything else should be given. The desired Sport Prestige 3.3T trim (providing the best engine, HUD, upgraded Brembo brakes, upgraded leather upholstery, etc.) should be provided. Genesis will undoubtedly offer customers all-wheel drive options. I think it will be a solid competition for medium-sized wagons offered by Germans.
But we have to wait to learn more. Fortunately, the Goodwood Festival of Speed begins on July 8th and leaves us with a relatively short waiting time. Perhaps Hyundai Motor Group will revisit its decision not to ship the G70 shooting brakes to the United States. It’s after recognizing that the segment is effectively in itself.
