Stillwater, Oklahoma — The Oklahoma State University Athletics Department announced on Thursday, May 20, that former President George W. Bush will open the ball in a baseball game against OSU’s New Orleans.
Bush was scheduled to throw the opening ceremony at Oblate Stadium on March 20, 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic ended the college baseball season before the event.
The university said Bush had a long-standing relationship with the stadium’s same-named Cecil Oblate and Oklahoma.
The game includes elevated roads and a post-match fireworks show.
“I’m excited that President Bush was able to change his historic look on campus and the official grand opening of Oblate Stadium, albeit a year later. It’s still a fun opportunity and I It’s an opportunity we’ll never forget, “said OSU Head Coach Josh Holliday. “A great gift for Cecil Oblate, his family, and cowboy baseball is something we cherish. Thursday night, President Bush offers a moment that our fans, players, and college will never forget. Will do it.
