Cherokee County, Georgia (CBS46)-District attorney Shannon Wallace was sentenced to 22 July after Woodstock resident Jose Jamie Argeta, 46, was convicted of imprisonment and worsening sodomy charges. Announced that he was sentenced.
The accusation stems from an incident that occurred at his home in Cherokee County on May 24, 2020.
Due to the physical limitations of the victim, Argeta provided his basic care.
The incident began when Argeta pushed the victim into the bedroom, where he had sex with a man against his will for about 45 minutes.
The victim was finally able to arrive at the neighbor’s residence for help, and the neighbor called 911. Victims were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
During a jury trial that ended on June 30, the state provided evidence that Argeta had forced victims to sodom and actions had not been agreed. Seven witnesses testified, including LiveSafe Resources’ Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), who evaluated the victim and recorded the injuries he suffered.
“Through collaboration with LiveSafe Resources and Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, we were able to conduct a thorough investigation and file a convincing case against the jury,” said the assistant district attorney who filed the case on behalf of the state. Leyna Pope says. .. “The defendant took advantage of this fragile victim, scared him, made him feel pain, and desperately needed help.”
Victims told investigators at the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office that, despite his best efforts, he was not strong enough to protect himself during the assault due to his physical restrictions. Told.
At the end of the judgment hearing on 22 July, Judge Ellen McClear was sentenced to 40 years in prison without the possibility of parole and then sentenced to lifelong imprisonment. During the trial period, Argeta is subject to special conditions for sex offenders and may not be in contact with the victim.
District Attorney Shannon Wallace said:
The crime that Argeta committed on May 24, 2020 is nothing less than sneaky. It’s scary to imagine the depth of betrayal and humiliation that this victim felt after being so hurt by someone he once trusted. We would like to thank the jury in Cherokee County for enduring the evidence and testimony presented in this case. Their verdict ensures that Jose Jaime Argeta spends decades in prison for his crimes and cannot hurt another innocent victim.
The District Attorney’s Office of the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit is committed to seeking justice, acting in good faith, and working with partners in the criminal justice system to protect the citizens of Cherokee County and Georgia.
