Georgia O’Keeffe Museum plans expansion project at new site – Albuquerque, New Mexico

Museum officials will announce their plans this week at an online neighborhood notification meeting that the city needs for specific construction projects. Since the opening of the museum in 1997, extension work has been underway, but in recent years the extension has evolved into a relocation.

The museum director, Cody Hartley, said the existing museum would be an annex, but authorities could later decide not to use the current building.

“The organization has grown and continued to grow, but our facility has not caught up,” Hartley said. “This future building will support us for years.”

Hartley said he would like to get a dismantling permit by the end of the year, and design work will dominate 2022.

The museum opened in 1997 and exhibits 40 O’Keefe paintings. In 2006, I received additional paintings from the Georgia O’Keeffe Foundation.

“This little museum had to prove itself so that the museum could trust our work,” said Hartley, who entered the museum in 2013 and became director in 2019. It was. We are one of the smallest museums accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. “

Gluckman Tan Architects of New York City designed the original Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and was also responsible for the design of the new museum. Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architect in Cambridge, Massachusetts is a landscape architect, and Thinc Design in New York is an exhibition design company.

“We’ve been working quietly,” Hartley said. “We have not made any significant announcements.”
