The Burke Museum was the second home of Owen Oliver (Kino Indian Nation and Isletapueblo), who recently graduated from the University of Washington. His father, Marvin Oliver, was a well-known artist, UW emeritus professor of Native American studies, and a deputy curator of the museum. His sister Lisa did a graduate study in Burke.
In his fourth year, Owen Oliver created a walking tour of the University of Washington’s Seattle campus, highlighting the presence of indigenous peoples on campus, including the Burke Museum, the first destination of the tour.
UW News met with Oliver and asked about inspiration for the tour, what people want to get out of the tour, and how to help create a virtual map version.
Below is a virtual version of the tour that you can use to navigate the campus while reading the description of each Oliver stop.
