Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – Some Wichita residents enjoyed going out for Easter on Sundays.
At New Destiny on Waco Street, Naomi said, “People have become more comfortable with the idea of going out.” “I don’t think there were any complaints today.”
Naomi held an Easter party. It was outdoors and most of the outsiders took off their masks for the day.
Naomi says more people have been vaccinated, which gives confidence to many who come back to the group.
“Even if you’re outside your family or group, it’s a good idea to stay socially distant,” says Naomi. “I wore a mask inside.”
Karista Pineda volunteers in a children’s ministry at New Destiny. She says the vaccine helps build confidence.
“The question is whether people will inoculate it (with a vaccine),” Calista said. “But I think knowing that the old community has it gives some confidence, and it’s more stable by knowing that parents and grandchildren are covered.”
Calista said she and others would consider going to more events like baseball at the new stadium.
“Let’s keep pushing,” said Mayor Brandon Whipple. “Push the vaccine as much as we can. Get vaccinated as many people as possible.”
Whipple says it’s a good pace of change for people to get out. The mayor still wants to reduce the number of COVID-19 and says not everyone is vaccinated. Therefore, Whipple is still promoting the vaccine.
“Mask. Everyone needs to take advantage of their personal responsibilities, get vaccinated and keep wearing the mask,” Whipple said. “So we don’t have to go back when it comes to the type of policy we’re all really tired of.”
