The Boston Athletic Association said in a statement mourning the death of Vice President, historian and archivist Gloria Ratty, who died on Saturday at the age of 90 “after a brave fight against cancer.”
From South Boston, Mr. Rathi has served BAA and Boston Marathon runners in a variety of roles that have been involved in the organization for more than half a century, according to a statement.
“Gloria was essentially the first lady of our sport wherever she went,” said Guy Morse, a former BAA Executive Director and longtime colleague of Rathi, in a statement.
“From champions to general runners, Gloria personally cared for everyone and represented the human side of running,” he said. “It was her mission to make the Boston Marathon an event for more than a day. She sought to make it a personal experience for many. She did it, but moved the entire organization forward. It was also a moral authority that helped to make it. “
