Lumberton, NC (WBTW) —Lumberton’s family prayed Wednesday after the shooting killed their parents and injured a two-year-old child.

Lumberton police say they responded to Denver Road around 3 am Wednesday after shooting at Denver’s house.

Waraik Smith, his wife Ratya and their little child were injured in the shooting. The family says they were sleeping in bed. They were all taken to the hospital for treatment.

“Here they shot the house here,” said Reggie Smith, pointing at the bullet hole in the front window of the house. He is Waraik’s brother and lives nearby. He heard the shot ring.

“I walked over my brother’s house and looked at their windows,” he said. “She said,’Reggie, all three of us were shot.'”

The family said Waraik was shot in the face, Ratya was shot in the arm, and the child was shot in the foot.

“It’s meaningless,” said Reggie Smith. “You gave birth to a baby at home, and they are shooting, and you don’t know who they are shooting.”

Waraiku’s mom, Rosa Smith, lives across the street. She also heard the shooting and said Wednesday that her “heart was broken.”

Smith said he adopted Waraik when he was a baby, and her son was a talented musician playing in many churches.

She asks the same question as Reggie.

“What type of person can shoot a two-year-old kid at home at 3am?” She said.

Lumberton police have not released information on potential suspects or motives. The agency is still seeking information from the general public. Meanwhile, thousands are showing support online. The family is still grateful and wishes something good.

“My brother may be dead,” Smith said. “His wife may be dead. Their baby may be dead. But God intervened.”

Smith expects all three to survive.

“I know God is possible, and every time I think about it and start crying, I say,’OK, you got this,'” Rosa Smith said. Told. “So I just believe that God takes something bad, turns it around, and causes something good to happen.”
