Indianapolis, Indiana – Gonzaga, Baylor, Illinois, and Michigan won their first seed at this year’s NCAA tournament.
A year later without March Madness, bracket I’m back. The pandemic forced the NCAA to cancel the tournament last year. This year, the entire field is heading to Indianapolis. Indianapolis will host the entire tournament this year.
From the first four games on Thursday, all games will be played in Indiana. The first round will take place on Friday and Saturday.
Gonzaga will be number one in the overall seed of the tournament to complete its undefeated season for the first time in 35 years. The bulldog is the top seed in the western region and will face the first four winners between Norfolk State University and Appalachian State University. Gonzaga has the opportunity to play against the 1975-76 Indiana Hoosiers, the last team to finish the season undefeated.
Virginia is the fourth seed in the western region. Cavaliers were 2019 champions and there was concern that the COVID-19 issue could move them away from the NCAA after having to withdraw from the ACC tournament.
Baylor is a top seed in the south of the tournament and may face either North Carolina or Wisconsin in the second round. The bear is the first seed to be No. 1.
Colgate, who solidified its position in the Patriot League title game early Sunday, faces Arkansas, the third seeded as the intriguing 14th seed. Colgate is one of the highest scoring teams in the country.
Illinois is the number one seed in the Midwest of the tournament and may face Loyola-Chicago in the second round. Loyola, who made a memorable final four run in 2018, has returned to the NCAA for three consecutive tournaments.
Syracuse is the 11th team in the Mid West and is one of several bubble teams to get good news during the release of Bracket. Utah is the 11th seed in the south. Drake, who lost to Loyola in the Missouri Valley Conference title game, won a big bid, but the Bulldog will have to face Wichita State University in the first four games on Thursday.
Michigan is the top seed in the eastern part of the tournament and, along with Illinois, has given Big Ten two No. 1s in the area of 68 teams. The area also includes the First Four Marquee Matchup, played Thursday by Michigan State University and UCLA, two of the biggest names in college basketball.
Louisville, Colorado, St. Louis and Mississippi are the first four teams to be excluded, and these teams will be waiting to replace the multi-bid league teams that have to withdraw due to COVID-19 issues.
