Topeka, Kansas (KSNT) —Republican leaders in the Kansas House of Representatives issued a statement on Friday after details of the arrest of Congressman Wellsville were released.
According to a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Mark Samsel was arrested for a misdemeanor battery charge after an incident between him and a student during a transfer at Wellsville High School.
House leadership confirmed that it was Republican representative Mark Samsel and issued a statement.
“Today I learned that Congressman Mark Samsel was involved in the case and was contacted by law enforcement agencies. I don’t know the details yet, but I’m collecting as much information as possible.”
Speaker Ron Rickman (R-Olathe), Majority Leader Dan Hawkins (R-Wichita), Speaker Pro Tem Brain Finch (R-Ottawa)
The incident was reported on Wednesday. Samsel was released on public debt Thursday afternoon. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office shared details of the case in a Friday release.
Although details about what Samsel accused exactly are limited, Samsel spoke with Wellsville director Ray Bradbury that he would not be able to work in the school district.
“We will continue to participate in the survey and communicate in the right way,” Bradbury said. “And we will continue to check in our students to do so at all times.”
When I contacted KSHSAA, he said he would not comment at this time.
