Portland, Oregon (KOIN)-If you think gas prices have risen significantly during the winter storm, you’re right. But if you think it’s a price cut, well, think again.
Gasoline prices are skyrocketing. According to Gas Buddy data Since Hurricane Harvey, the national average has skyrocketed at the fastest pace. Gas is up 10 cents per gallon and diesel is up 9 cents.
But there are good reasons why prices are soaring. Soaring prices were the result of about 12 refineries, primarily in Texas, being forced to close due to the potential for disruption to exposed equipment in frigid temperatures.
This stopped production of millions of barrels a day.
Price increases should begin to slow this week or later next week as the cold is delayed and refineries are back online.
