Las Vegas (KLAS) — The general public, including government agencies and school districts, will have a better understanding of the financial challenges the state will face in the coming years on Monday night.
Governor Steve Sisolak posted on his Twitter account on Monday, saying he would publish a summary of the 2021-2023 budget the evening one day before the state’s speech. This is a break from tradition, as budgets are usually announced at the time of the speech.
“This budget reflects the reality we are in now. Tomorrow’s state address shows where Nevada is heading,” he writes.
In November, Sisorak requested state agencies to propose a 12% budget cut. During the summer, lawmakers were convened during a special session to make up for a budget shortage of over $ 1 billion.
“This state will undoubtedly look different from previous states in Nevada’s history. My recommended budget represents where we are as a result of the COVID-19 emergency, my state. Emphasizes where we are heading.” Governor Sisorak said in a news release earlier this month.
Due to the pandemic, Sisorak pre-records the address.
The state address will air on Tuesday, January 9th at 6 pm. Channel 8 will cover the speech and will also be live streamed to 8NewNow.com and the governor’s Facebook page.
