Greenville, South Carolina (WSPA) -The Biden administration has invested billions of dollars to monitor emerging variants of COVID-19, and doctors could create another pandemic wave. It states that there is. Greenville’s Premier Medical Lab Service will soon be one of the largest laboratories in the country to research new COVID variants.

“This is the next wave of fighting this pandemic,” said Michael Conroy, Premier Vice President of Compliance.

Through variant surveillance in the lab, researchers can examine positive COVID samples to identify the variant that is causing the infection.

“It can do a few things,” Conroy said. “First, you can track the different variants that pop up and look for hotspots geographically. This allows you to determine if there are new mutations … how one variant goes to your country. You can come in and see if you’re traveling around the country. Based on the variants, you can see the importance of the symptoms. “

Currently known variants are Indian variants, British variants, Brazil, South Africa, California, and New York.

“The CDC, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Health, hospitals and pharmacies all need this data for a variety of reasons,” said Conroy. “That’s why we invested in deploying equipment to get in and run higher throughput.”

The device includes two machines that the lab uses to monitor thousands of positive covid samples per day and look for new variants of the virus.

“That is, we can now run about 3000 samples per shift, so we can process 6000 samples per day,” says Conroy. “We can expect to double that, so we’ll be doing it here 12,000 times a day in the coming weeks.”

Conroy said all pharmaceutical research will be driven towards the production of vaccines that target mutations.

“Mutating these vaccines can make them less potent anymore, so you can monitor different types of mutations and ensure that these vaccines provide maximum efficiency. Conroy said.

As he says, this is ahead of its time in the fight against pandemics.
