Greenville, South Carolina (WSPA) – Greenville Police are seeking information about the assault on the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

At 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 24, Greenville police responded to a woman assaulted on the Swamp Rabbit Trail near Baxter Street in the area behind 721 Cleveland Street.

The victim said that while running on the trail, a male subject approached her from behind and tried to grab her and pull her into the woods. The victim was taken to the ground, but was able to repel the subject and escape, police said.

According to police, the subject wore a neck gaiter and sunglasses, so the victim could not see his face well. The victim advised that the subject was a black male, about 5’9 or less, and of average physique.

According to police, this subject has not been placed on the scene and has not yet been identified.

It’s the same place where another runner was attacked last year.

“We are all runners here, we have a very close community and it’s really painful to hear about it,” said Dane Simmons, who runs RunIn.

He was surprised to hear about another attack, but not where it happened.

“It’s a bit dark over there, so it’s a bit off. There’s not that much population there. So not many people use the trail anyway, but that seems to be a problem,” Simmons said. I will.

Simmons wants to remind us to think about safety before the incident goes out to runners.

“You always want to run with a group or someone else,” Simmons said.

There are even devices that can help anyone on the trail if they are targeted.

“It only comes with a small ripcord, so if you rip it when you feel threatened, you’ll hear a very big siren,” Simmons says.

He also wants more attention to that part of the trail when it comes to safety.

“Anything is useful. More lights, emergency buttons, anything,” he said.

For now, he wants to take one message home.

“Run with your friends, runners and everyone running there. Run on your phone. Take the necessary precautions when you’re exercising and enjoying the trail. “Simons said.

Greenville police recommend that anyone on the trail on Saturday afternoon contact an investigator if they see someone who matches the description. Investigators also ask people living nearby to look at the home security system to determine if they have caught a suspect fleeing the area.
