Greenville, South Carolina (WSPA) – Many shop at the last minute and prepare big meals on Thursdays with family and friends, while those who serve others have a lifetime to nourish their bodies and souls. I’m working hard.

“This is the most important day of the year for me,” said Joseph Becker, Salvation Army kitchen and pantry supervisor.

The Salvation Army in Greenville has already begun work to provide the largest meal of the year.

“Turkey dressing and cranberry sauce and gravy sauce. The same goes for collard greens, macaroni and cheese, pumpkin pies and pecan pies,” says Becker.

He said the flood of donations and volunteers was overwhelming this year.

“We have the most people bring us goods and the most people are looking for Thanksgiving,” he said.

He said all organizations would meet at this time of the year to ensure that everyone had a Thanksgiving meal.

“The Miracle Hill Ministry provides us with turkeys every year. They are incredibly generous and can actually slice them for us.” Becker said.

Becker said that being able to give a Thanksgiving meal gift is fulfilling.

“One of the most important social experiences with family and friends is to eat together,” he said.

He shared his gratitude this year.

“Despite the ongoing pandemic, I’m grateful that I’ve probably received the most donations I’ve ever seen since I worked here,” Becker said.

And he said it was really all about donations this season.

“Despite all the hardships we have experienced as a nation, people are more than happy to help, and they know that others are making it worse, I think it’s because of the struggle they want to help, “Becker said.

Meals are also prepared for the entire community, so if you need to go somewhere on Thursday, head to the Salvation Army from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm for that community’s meal.
