Groundbreaking for new Gilcrease Museum space begins Tuesday – Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa, Oklahoma 2022-05-03 07:20:24 –

The Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma will begin construction on Tuesday to begin construction of the new facility.

City leaders and museum staff meet at 1:00 pm at a groundbreaking location that could become Gilcrease’s future new home.

The new building will have more than 91,000 square feet of space and will accommodate a wide selection of American art collections and other crafts. Authorities say future facilities were designed “with and for the community.”

Construction will officially begin later this summer and is expected to take several years to complete. The original location of the Gilcrease Museum was closed in July 2021 and was demolished earlier this year.

The project will also incorporate 460 acres of land into the visitor and tourist experience. They add up to 14 miles of cycling and hiking trails and other facilities.

In the meantime, Tulsans can enjoy his beloved museum at Mother Road Market’s pop-up retail stores and gallery space.

The new building will be completed by 2024 and will be open to the public.
