Herbert Victor Brandt died of “self-harm” gunshot wound
KOIN, Oregon — According to the Hood River Police Department, a man accused of firing multiple times in downtown Hood River was found dead on Saturday morning.
Police responded to a riot call for reports of people screaming and throwing fireworks at 100 blocks on E-State Street shortly after 3 am. When they arrived, police officers found a man running down the street with a shotgun. Despite the order to surrender, the suspect continued to fire multiple times while fleeing.
Shortly thereafter, several agencies joined the pursuit of a man identified as 38-year-old Herbert Victor Brandt in Tyrone, Georgia, according to HRPD. During the chase, a lieutenant at the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office was attacked by a shotgun pellet fired by Brandt, but was not injured.
According to police, Brandt was placed near an HRSO plane on the Indian Creek Trail shortly after 5:30 am, and his body was found dead in an “apparently self-injured gunshot wound.”
According to HRPD, there were no law enforcement fires during the incident.
