Gymnastics team done with ‘sexualization,’ wears unitards – Riverside, California

Riverside, California 2021-07-25 11:40:01 –

Male gymnasts wear relatively covert clothing with loose shorts for floor exercises and vaults, and long trousers for bar and pommel horse routines.

The team outfit looked like any other outfit in the room, with the arena lights crossing the chest and down the bright red white sleeves to illuminate the crystals.

But the new Olympic suits of the German gymnastics team didn’t stop at their hips.

For decades, female gymnasts have been wearing bikini-cut leotards. However, in Sunday’s qualifying, the German team instead wore a unitard that stretched to the ankle and intended to oppose the sexualization of women in gymnastics.

The Tokyo Olympics are the first time since Larry Nassar, a former US gymnastics team doctor, was sent to jail for 176 years for sexually abusing hundreds of gymnasts, including some of the best stars in the sports world. It’s the Summer Olympics. In his ruling, athletes (some Olympic athletes) explained how sports culture enabled the abuse and objectification of young women and girls.

Male gymnasts wear relatively covering clothing. Singlet, loose shorts for floor exercises and vaults, and routine longs for bars and pommel horses.

The German team first wore unitard at the European Artistic Gymnasium in April.

21-year-old German Sarah Voss said he wasn’t sure if he would decide to wear it again during the Olympic Games until he met before the Games.

“Today I sat down and said,’OK, I want to have a big competition,'” said the boss. “We want to feel great. We want to show everyone that we look great.”

Their wardrobe revolution is widely supported, but so far they haven’t started the trend. In the qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics, all other female gymnasts wore leotards with their legs exposed.

American superstar Simone Biles said he prefers leotards in June at 4’8. Leotards have long legs and look tall.

“But I agree with their decision to wear whatever they like and what they feel comfortable with,” Biles said. “So if anyone wants to wear a unitard or leotard, it’s entirely up to you.”

Matt Cowan, Chief Commercial Officer of GG Elite, the best leotard maker in the United States, said most of the demands on Unitard came from countries that demanded humility for cultural and religious reasons. Otherwise, they have never seen them rushing towards catsuits.

“Do we do that? Of course. We have the ability to design and run it, and we did it,” Cowan said. “But from the perspective of consumer demand, we are not there yet.”

Gymnastics is often regarded as the most popular sport for very young women and girls. The 24-year-old Biles often makes jokes about getting older. She recently called her grandma on social media.

However, other countries, including Germans, oppose the emphasis on youth. Elizabeth Sites is 27 years old, Kim Bui is 32 years old, Pauline Schäfer is 24 years old and Voss is 21 years old. The average age is 26 years. Body as they change with age.

Their costumes comply with the rules of the International Gymnastics Federation wardrobe. However, that does not mean that female athletes are generally free to cover their bodies as they choose.

Just days before the tournament began, the Norwegian women’s beach volleyball team refused to play in bikini bottoms during European tournaments and instead chose shorts that were close to the skin. As a result, they were fined for violating the wardrobe requirements.

But at Sunday’s gymnastics qualifying, the speaker announcer called the outfit “really great.” The German team was unable to make it to the finals, but the announcer wondered if the team’s debut on the Olympic stage could increase Unitard’s popularity.
