Independence, Missouri (KCTV5)-Time seems to have stopped within the Bingham Wagoner Estate in Independence, Missouri. Once inside, you’ll be taken to an early era and peek into Kansas City’s rich and famous lifestyle at the turn of the century.
The mansion is located on more than 19 acres and is not far from the Independence Square. The former home of George Caleb Bingham, a famous painter of the Missouri Senator. Later, the Wagoner family, the owner of a large mill, bought the land and stored it for over 100 years.
Today, the house is owned by an independent city and operates as a museum. Over 90% of furniture, carpets and paintings are home original.
“Craftsmanship is no longer seen,” said Ron McCarty of the Bingham Wagoner Historical Society.
Due to the coronavirus, the mansion is not open to the public for tours. But we had to experience real estate in another way. With the help of Elijah Buchholz, who runs the Apex Paranormal Tour Company, we can say “spectral distance”.
“Bingham Wagoner is one of the most beautiful places we could investigate,” Buchholtz said.
Buchholz has introduced night-vision cameras and other equipment that use radio signals to allow ghosts to communicate with living things.
“Every time we investigate here, there are spirits that react to us and the equipment is turned off,” says Buchholtz.
But not so many, the night we tagged together.
Eventually, we used an “old-fashioned” ghost communicator (a standard maglite flashlight) to get a flicker of what could have been paranormal communication.
Sure, it’s fun, but there’s still more to check out the old ghosts around the area.
“You don’t have to be scared,” McCarty said. “It’s about the energy left in an area.”
Elijah Buchholz agreed, “It’s a great way to explore the history here and get excited about the buildings and the people who lived here in the past.”
