Brooks Baehr, a Hawaii DOH spokesman, said the department is working to make the COVID vaccine available to children and their parents.

“These locations include a large number of more than 100 schools: medical facilities, hospitals, pop-up vaccination sites, pharmacies, and community health centers,” says Baehr. “Even a handful of pediatrician clinics should provide vaccines to young people if they are approved by federal regulators.”

Dr. Melinda Ashton of Hawaii Pacific Health said the approach to children would be different from larger vaccination sites such as Peer Two. She said mass vaccination sites could strain young children. Instead, they are trying to find a way to keep their children comfortable with their nearby parents.

“Perhaps another approach would be to vaccinate the children in their parents’ cars,” said Dr. Ashton. “Simply a drive-through vaccination approach will allow children to spend comfortably with their families and enjoy their entertainment while waiting for 15 minutes.”

According to doctors, infant vaccine data show results similar to doses within teens.

Dr. Nadine Ten Saar, a pediatrics specialist, said, “I know it’s safe and has some rare side effects that we don’t know about, but I feel it’s safe enough to send to the general public. I will. ”

Children between the ages of 5 and 11 make up more than 8% of the state’s population. Once the vaccine is released to this age group, vaccinated children will be able to move their needles in state vaccination efforts.

“I think many children are missing out on many opportunities. This is different from us as we can vaccinate more people and vaccinate them. Will give you a layer of protection, “Veil added. “And it will hopefully bring us closer to ending this horrific pandemic.”
